Public hearing on civics education

The Educational Research Institute and the Ministry of Education invite proposals and comments on a new school subject – civics education. A public hearing will be held already on June 20.

The subject of civics education will be taught in to students in the second year of secondary schools (2 hours per week in general and vocational secondary schools and 1 hour in sectoral vocational schools) starting with the 2025/2026 school year. Due to the nature of civics education, the intention of the organisers is to collect opinions from citizens on their expectations of this new subject.

We particularly encourage the following groups to attend the hearing:

  • Social Studies, History and Today teachers
  • Young people attending secondary school and its recent graduates.

The voice of practitioners and young people will provide particularly valuable input to the work of the team preparing this curriculum.
