The Council wants more support for teachers

“We want to include attention to values and attitudes in subject teaching. We must establish good working conditions for teachers and enable support where it is needed,” said Prof. Zbigniew Marciniak, chairperson of the Council for Monitoring the Implementation of Education Reform.

During the fourth meeting of the Council for Monitoring the Implementation of Education Reform of the Commission of National Education, which took place on April 10, 2025 at the Educational Research Institute – National Research Institute, the vice-chairperson of the Council, Dr. Tomasz Gajderowicz, Deputy Director of IBE PIB, presented the status of work on educational reform. He said, among other things, that the subject teams appointed by IBE PIB are already working on new core curriculum formats.

The Council on support for teachers

Dr. Kinga Białek, an external expert at IBE, discussed the work relating to teacher support, the identification of potential barriers and needs, as well as ways of providing information about the reform.

The Council members discussed, among other things, the need to support teachers and inform them about the planned changes in the education system. The role of school principals in communicating information about the reform to teachers, students and parents was also highlighted. Piloting the proposed solutions was considered a good practice.

Other topics that affect the situation of teachers were also discussed:

  • the quality of teacher training, the quality of postgraduate education,
  • strengthening the role of teachers and the prestige of the profession,
  • the emerging generation gap among teachers,
  • inclusive education and overcrowded classrooms.

Council members also discussed which skills schools should teach students so that they can find their way in a changing world, become creators of ideas and are able to put them into practice.

Our main aims? To get back on track with educational results, to react to the dramatic state of the well-being of pupils and teachers, to increase the prestige of schools and the teaching profession, and to give pupils a sense of agency. All the solutions being discussed are not intended to come into force on September 1, 2026, but to be spread out over time and introduced systematically. In 2026, new core curricula for primary school grades 1 and 4 will come into effect,

Dr. Tomasz Gajderowicz, Deputy Director of IBE PIB.
